London School of Economics Locker Room
The old London School of Economics locker room was overcrowded, unfriendly and unsafe. Its structure was badly corroded, and the lockers were ugly and in a poor state of repair. Low ceilings made usage difficult and added to the design challenge.
Our new structure contains fewer columns to make the building safer and improve sightlines, and contains upgraded insulation and damp proofing. We created more space and installed a new staircase. We introduced bold colour and branding to emphasise the main elements in the room, provide contrast, and create a much more attractive environment.
Oversized letters and numbers give distinctiveness and legibility, and a light colour palette brightens the space. New low-level lockers give views over the top, providing additional safety and security. A transparent glazed entrance box provides controlled access and passive surveillance. The project was completed in only eight weeks.
